Are you a resident of Bradford County and attend a college or university, majoring in natural resources, conservation, agriculture or another related environmental field? If you said yes, here is an opportunity for you to apply for some scholarship funds! Applications for the scholarship are accepted until September 30th of each year.

The Manchester Scholarship was created in 1991 as a memorial for Ernest Manchester who was a devoted supporter for the conservation of Bradford County’s natural resources.  The memorial was set up by the family, under the administration of the Conservation District, with the mission of supporting County college students that pursue degrees in natural resource management, conservation, agriculture or other related fields.  “It’s an investment in our youth and community to be better able to address future natural resource decisions,” says the Manchester family.  The scholarship is available to any Bradford County college student that is in their junior or senior year of pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or the second year of an associate degree.

The first scholarship was awarded in 1994 in the amount of $125. Last year the award amount was $2,000. Over the past 30 years, the Manchester Scholarship has awarded the youth of our County with over 40 scholarships totaling $33,000 in scholarship funds. Several of the awardees have obtained jobs in the environmental field and are still working in that field today. In recent years, this scholarship has also been awarded with additional funds from the Bradford Sullivan Forest Landowner’s Association’s scholarship.

Don’t miss the opportunity to become one of this year’s recipients! Send in your application today! Applications for the scholarship are always available at the Conservation District office or on our website www.bccdpa.com. Applications received after Septmenber 30th will be held until next year’s application period.
