CONSERVATION CORNER
A weekly blog for all things conservation
Repsol and BCCD staff work together to plant a riparian forest buffer adjacent to a streambank rehabilitation project in Troy. Lynse West – Repsol, External Relations & Communications In celebration of Repsol’s International Volunteer Week, the company came together with the Bradford County Conservation District (BCCD) for a meaningful and impactful tree planting initiative that brought Repsol’s values of community, sustainability, and stewardship to life. Volunteers from across departments in Repsol joined forces with BCCD staff to plant over 300 native trees in key areas of impact across the county. These efforts were part of Repsol’s broader conservation strategy aimed at improving water quality, restoring wildlife habitats, and enhancing the natural beauty of our local environment. The collaboration with Repsol and BCCD is a perfect match. Their expertise in environmental conservation and land management provided the foundation for a well-organized and educational experience for the Repsol volunteers, who not only got their hands dirty but also learned about the importance of riparian buffers, erosion control, and the role native species play in maintaining ecological balance.
Highlights of the week include Repsol’s engagement in multiple large-scale planting events along a streambank that had been severely eroded. With guidance from BCCD technicians, the Repsol team helped stabilize the area by planting a mix of dogwoods, willows, and other native species known for their deep root systems. These trees will help reduce runoff, filter pollutants, and provide shade to improve aquatic habitats for fish and other wildlife. In addition to the planting efforts, volunteers participated in hands-on conservation activities such as mulching, staking, and installing protective tree shelters to ensure the young saplings thrive. These tasks not only supported the long-term success of the project but also gave participants a deeper appreciation for the care and commitment required in environmental restoration work. Beyond the environmental impact, the week was a celebration of teamwork and shared purpose. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds came together, united by a common goal: to give back to the community and leave a lasting legacy. Many participants expressed how rewarding it was to see the immediate results of their efforts and to know that the trees they planted would benefit generations to come. As International Volunteer Week came to a close, the sense of accomplishment was palpable. Together, Repsol and BCCD not only planted trees—they planted hope, resilience, and a deeper connection to the land we call home. Repsol extends its heartfelt thanks to the Bradford County Conservation District for their partnership and to every volunteer who contributed their time, energy, and passion. This initiative is a shining example of what we can achieve when we work together for the greater good. The Bradford County Conservation District is committed to helping people manage resources wisely.
