Native shrub, that can reach 12 feet tall. It can be found in areas along streams, marshes, moist forests, and disturbed areas. Tolerates a wide variety of wet to dry soils but prefers rich, moist, slightly acidic soil in full sun to partial shade. Plants will spread by root suckers. It is a good addition to butterfly, edible, native, pollinator, or rain gardens and is effective erosion control.
