Native deciduous tree in the ebony family. It can reach 30 to 80 feet high and 20 to 35 feet wide. Persimmon grows best in moist, well-drained, sandy soils in full sun to partial shade. It can tolerate hot, dry conditions, poor soil, and wind. They begin producing fruit in 4 to 9 years. Persimmons are dioecious, meaning there are separate male and female trees, and you need both to get fruit.
