Conservation Field Day

The Environment Rocks!

Since our first Conservation Field Day held in 1985, the BCCD has been providing Bradford County school districts with a unique way for students to engage with and learn about natural resources, the environment, and conservation through a day of interactive activities and exciting discussions with professionals in a wide variety of environmental careers.

It is BCCD's goal and vision to properly mentor our students into becoming well informed future environmental stewards. By organizing these field days, we are allowing our students to better understand the world around them and become more conscious of the real-world impacts on our natural resources.

Every year the BCCD collaborates with volunteers and informal educators from a variety of agencies and organizations to provide well rounded environmental stations for students.  Some participants are:
  • Susquehanna Beekeepers Association
  • Penn State Cooperative Extension
  • PA Fish and Boat Commission
  • PA Game Commission
  • PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources
  • Bradford County 4-H
  • PA Farm Bureau
  • Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority
  • PA Woodmobile

During a field day, students will visit eight different stations ranging around 30 minutes long.  At each station they will engage in hands-on activities, interesting discussions, and view demonstrations around environmental science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).  Our Conservation Field Day is geared toward having students foster an understanding and personal relationship with nature by exploring topics such as wildlife habitat, forestry, water quality, soil health and more.

BCCD has created a virtual conservation field day program menu option for teachers, educators, parents and students to access on their own time and within their own unique learning environment.
