Canton High School Places 4th in 2024 State Envirothon!

Picture
The BCCD is proud to announce that the "Bigfoot Assassins" team from Canton High School has placed 4th in the 2024 State Envirothon! Team members consisted of Alyssa May, Lucas Drever, Savannah Bastian-Brown, Tyler Engel, and Jonah Gibble.

This is the second year in a row for them to be our highest placing team at the state Envirothon competition in the 30+ years of the contest!

What is Envirothon?

Envirothon is a great learning experience and fun academic event for Bradford County elementary, high school, and private school students. It allows students to think critically about the environment by understanding our world's diverse ecosystems and their roles in it.  Envirothon combines in-class curriculum and outdoor training, helping students learn more about aquatic ecology, forestry, soil and land use, wildlife and current environmental issues.

The importance of Envirothon

  • Envirothon fosters students' awareness of the entire environment and develop a sensitivity towards its finite natural resources.

  • Envirothon assists students in gaining a fundamental grasp of the earth's ecological systems and the interdependence between humanity and these systems.

  • Envirothon cultivates attention and emotions for environmental concerns, while also inspiring the motivation and dedication to engage in activities aimed at environmental protection.

  • Envirothon aids students in acquiring the skills necessary to recognize, explore, and contribute to solving environmental issues and challenges.

Bradford County Envirothon

The Bradford County Envirothon is held in April each year at Mount Pisgah State Park.  The event is supported by volunteers such as the PA Game Commission, Natural Resources Conservation Services, BCCD staff, Mount Pisgah Park Rangers, PA Fish and Boat Commission, and related community members. Want to know more about the event or how to participate? Contact our Education Coordinator, Dan Rhodes, at [email protected] or by phone at 570-485-3125.
