CONSERVATION CORNER
A weekly blog for all things conservation
By Megan Brown, Ag Resource Specialist, BCCD The new year has finally rolled around, and we all know what that means… snow, cold weather, and short, dreary days. This time of the year always seems to drag on for me. The main holidays are over, and the excitement of snow/winter activities has worn off. Now it is time to wait for spring to roll around. Spring is one of my favorite times of the year! The snow finally starts to melt, the days get a little longer, grass begins to grow, and the best part is when the flowers begin to bloom. I love flowers and the color and joy that they can bring to your home. My least favorite time of the year is when the cold weather rolls around and kills all the beautiful blooms that were once growing around my house. Sadly, this is the time of the year we are stuck in now. However, thanks to florists we can have these bright and beautiful blooms at any time during the year! Being able to bring a floral arrangement inside my home this time of the year seems to mean so much more to me. The flowers add color, hope, happiness, and joy to the space. Doesn’t this make you want to run right out to the flower shop and grab a whole bunch of flowers?! If so, I have good news for you! Instead of going to the florist and buying an already finished flower arrangement, wouldn’t it be fun to create your own? Not only will you be able to take a beautiful arrangement home to brighten up your space, but you will also have fun and make memories while arranging your own centerpiece. Does this sound right up your alley? If so, be sure to join us here at the Bradford County Conservation District for our first ever Floral Design class! This class will be held on February 12, 2022 from 10am to noon at the Stoll Natural Resource Center. At this class you will learn the basics of floral design, taught by a Penn State Master Gardener, and you will be able to create your very own floral arrangement to take home just in time for Valentine’s Day. The fee for this class is $30 per person and will include the flowers and greenery necessary to create your own beautiful arrangement, a vase, and lots of fun! Bring all your friends and come have a good time! All that we ask is that you bring your own pair of pruners. Please go to the Bradford County Conservation District website to register for this class. This class does have limited space so don’t wait to register or it may be too late. Registration will close January 19, 2022. We can’t wait to see you there!
We hope to start hosting more floral design classes throughout the year if there is a lot of interest. These classes would be a great way to get out of the house and meet new people in your community! So, don’t wait! Sign up now! Questions? Please feel free to contact Megan Rought at [email protected]
